To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

What plugins will work with Final Cut Pro X?

FCPX day two and we are starting to look into the new app a little closer and examine its possibilities and check out third party products. What plugins are available for FCPX? Will my old plugins work with FCPX?

Late last night, as I finished the previous post, a link to this little discussion popped up on my Twitter Feed. Here’s the original message from the thread...

Avid to Compressor

Thanks Sean at EPS for this terrific workaround! Lots of times we need to get an AVID MC Ref QT into Compressor and add TC or a "Prop Of", and with DNX codecs, you can’t. Lots of steps await you. And of course, time.

FCP X: The Aftermath

What can I say that hasn't been said by now? When the editing world makes the New York Times and CNN Money, you know something's afoot. And to be honest, I'm still kinda taking it all in but will give a more comprehensive take on it next week. I need a week to explore FCP X – and a weekend to recover.

Picking tools is fun. Arguing about which tool is best is fun. Checking out shiny accessories for the tool is fun. But, eventually, you have to build the house. Or award winning feature.

Well, it's taken a few days to sink in, but I'm beginning to get my brain around the reality of what's going on in our little corner of the world. I am referring to the release of FCP-X. Something which has caused an uproar in the community of editors.

Now that Final Cut Pro X has been out for a full 24 hours, the internet has rendered its verdict on the render-free software, and most of the backlash on Twitter seems to be coming from seasoned professionals.

Final Cut Pro X (version 10.0) arrived 8:30 a.m. yesterday morning at the App Store for $299, unleashing torrents of criticism about missing features and a perceived drift from professional product to one that consumers might find friendlier.
