To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Apple released Final Cut Pro X yesterday with only a press release on its home page, but it arrived to a big chorus of boos in the App Store. From the first rumors, this application was destined to be controversial, and the first day has provided plenty for would-be early adopters to chew on.

What Have You Been Smoking, Larry?

I was re-reading Larry Jordan's post from yesterday about the release of Final Cut Pro X [1]. Larry's someone to pay attention to, if only because he's had several weeks to actually play with the software...

Why We Can't Use FCPX at Our Companies

After a day of reading the forums, tweeting, and scanning the blogosphere, two COW leaders had a lot to talk about. Rich and Walter are not casual Final Cut Pro users... they've used it since version 1 and literally built their businesses using Apple tools. For them, today was the end of an era (Final Cut Studio and Final Cut Server were removed from sale). While both hope for the future, they each have strong opinions why they can't implement Final Cut Pro into their postproduction facilities.

Final Cut Pro X: The Day After

I haven't had any time to spend with it yet; other than installing it last night. I hope to spend some time playing with it today. It certainly seems to have struck a chord, though what they chord is, I'm not sure. A huge amount of initial negative reaction, tempered with a bit of "but wait... (it could get better)"

FCPX: Avid’s greatest marketing success?

It's official. Today, after 15 years, OneRiver Media officially purchased our first licensed seat of Avid Media Composer. This was actually a long time coming, as we're constantly in situations where Final Cut Pro 7 has limitations in how we work in the timeline.

iMovie Prosumer Plus = FCPX. For now.

In my short time with Final Cut Pro X, in hand, in use, I can tell you this: In it's current form it is a wonderful, incredible, Prosumer version of iMovie. This is not to say that it will never be what it needs to be, or where it has to be. It's a V1.0 app (despite being called Version 10), and Apple has said in many ways that they are going to add functionality.

FCPX Not for Pro's?

http://dylanreeve.com/videotv/2011/fcp-x-not-for-p...

Final Cut Pro X has arrived, but is it actually for pros? I don't think so, at least not now, and we have no idea when it might be. The following post is adapted from a comment I posted on Philip Hodgetts' blog – he's a great thinker and has good insight, but I think we disagree overall about FCP.

Burning FCPX Questions Answered

Well here we are into the first official evening of Final Cut Pro X's release out into the world. It's been a busy day and a Twitter search will show a good bunch of love, a whole lot of hate and a little bit in-between. There were a blessed few who got advance copies and they've written some FCPX must read articles. If you want to try it yourself then USD299 and the Mac Apps Store will get you a copy.
