To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Avid Hide and Go Seek

Avid's error messages are the stuff of legend. I've been in the biz for a while and I have yet to get one that tells me exactly what the error is. Usually it's some clandestine mumbo jumbo that makes no sense and prompts most users to shutdown the computer and hope for the best. Giving Avid a break is sometimes all the error message needs to go away. No matter if the problem is fixed. Just go away!

Tip: All HDMI Video Cables ARE Created Equal

It is a hobby of mine to walk into Best Buy and pretend I have no idea what I am talking about, just to see what kind of BS some sales associate conjures up. One scenario that never ceases to amaze me is the HDMI cord sales pitch.

I think the recent storms in the south are a reminder off-site backup can be just as important these days as a local backup. I've been happy with CrashPlan and have successfully restored files from there. There are other options as well. (Sorry this reminder is a day after the usual first of the month)

Ensuring file delivery when it matters most

When you’ve got a late-breaking news story, the footage has to get to the station as quickly as possible to beat the competition. Jockeying for bandwidth among a room full of college students and soccer moms simply won't cut it. Broadcasters need a predictable service that's sure to be available every time.

As usual, there were many new, useful products announced at this month's annual convention of the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) in Las Vegas. As usual, there were also many new trends, one sparked by the the U.S. Congress and another by last month’s earthquake & tsunami in Japan.
