It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Unless you've been living under a rock, you probably have heard the hottest news concerning FCP in a long time. FCPX is coming soon, but not in its usual packaging. Well, actually, there won’t be any packaging at all.

For a better look at the FCP-X introduction, check out these videos: part 1, and especially part 2. What's striking to me on second viewing is how much of the demo focused on editing. There were none of the de rigueur things...

To celebrate the upcoming Final Cut Pro X, we've bought Audi R8 used in Apple's NAB Supermeet presentation and decided to have some fun with it. Gear used in this production: Canon 5D Mark II, GoProHD, Final Cut Studio 3, RedGiant's Magic Bullet Looks, a set of tires and Audi R8 V8 4.2.

Some of our best interviews, recorded live at the 2011 NAB Show. New announcements from Blackmagic Design, NewTek, Smartsound, Telestream, Cache-A, Maxon, and Adrienne Electronics. Killer new technology — and great guests!

Unless you live in a cave, you might have heard that Apple announced FCP X (10) at the Supermeet at NAB. And from all the people asking me my thoughts about it, I gather they want to know what professional people think about what we saw.

Wednesday at the NAB Show I had the opportunity for a 1 on 1 demo of the full Baselight color correction system and it’s little cousin, the plug-in tool for Final Cut Pro (and other hosts).

I stopped back by the Filmlight tent on the last day of NAB to grab a quick iPhone video demo of Baeslight for FCP at work. After I posted the piece about this plug-in on Monday Filmlight announced that they were developing Baselight for Nuke which continues in that idea of Baselight everywhere. At least everywhere in the post-production pipeline. Baselight for Nuke will be a next step.

One interesting tool that I wanted to get a look at before leaving NAB 2011 was Silverstack SET from Pomfort. It's an All-in-one workflow solution for the set hence the name Silverstack SET. I had seen an early demo a year or so ago and I really liked the interface and design of the application but since it was more geared toward on-set use I didn't follow up on it until this year.

During the Final Cut Pro X demonstration at NAB, Apple took a swipe at Avid and a third supplier, Adobe, by saying they both are in a race for second place. We already know that the new version of Final Cut Pro will be priced...
