To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

New MacBook Pro and Thunderbolt

Apple has released new MacBook Pro today which comes in various models from 13 to 17 inch and from 2.3GHz Dual-Core i5 processor to Quad-Core i7 Intel monster. Faster 15" and 17" machines have AMD Radeon HD 6750M graphic card with 1GB of memory which makes it perfect for Apple Motion. What's most interesting for me, is the new technology for I/O called Thunderbolt. What the heck is that? Well, remember USB 2.0?

Making of NatGeo's "Wereth 11"

Earlier this month, National Geographic Channel (NatGeo) premiered "The Wereth 11," a movie about a group of African American soldiers caught behind enemy lines in Belgium during World War II. The rest of their story — like most war stories — is brutal. The story of the efforts to shine a spotlight on their sacrifice is inspiring. And the story behind the making of this film is innovative, ingenious and deceivingly creative. Here is that story...

Over the past few weeks I have been busy installing and building a PC workstation for editing. The need for a PC workstation was always there. However I waited until it became a serious requirement for editing before jumping into a PC.

With the advent of high quality acquisition tools for relatively little money, is there really a role for the highest quality production outside of niches? Terry and Philip have different understandings and it makes for an interesting show.

FCP Rumours

We haven’t seen a new version of Final Cut Pro in over two years, and with Apple hiring new UI engineers not so long ago, rumors of a new version have cropped up repeatedly. Apple apparently showed off the new version recently and impressed some people. Mac Rumors breaks the news, here. And Larry Jordan mentions in on his blog, here.

A new 64 bit Final Cut Pro?

By now you will have heard of, or read, either the Final Cut Pro rumor at Techcruch, or over at Larry Jordan’s Blog. Techcruch generally has good information, and I seriously doubt that Larry’s post would have been done without a specific OK from Apple – that’s just his style. Both say in one way or another:

How to Use The Foundry’s Storm to Color CorrectR

February 23, 2011, 03:12 PM

http://nofilmschool.com/2011/02/foundrys-storm-col...

The Foundry is best known for high-end compositing tools like Nuke, but they’re set to release their latest application, Storm, on March 1st. Storm is a much-needed low-cost "RED Production Hub," which will retail for the very reasonable price of $375 — reasonable considering it’s not only designed to help log and process the .R3D camera originals, but it’s also meant to be a post-production solution that will take RED-based edits all the way through final color correction to delivery.
