To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Next Version of FCP called Dramatic and Ambitious

February 23, 2011, 01:14 PM

http://fcpdaily.com/2011/02/next-version-of-fcp-ca...

TechCrunch.com reports today rumors surrounding a promising update to FCP are indeed true. TechCrunch confirms that speclation that an update may be more "consumer-oriented" is in fact not the case....and that the new update will be a complete overhaul of the product...the biggest update since it’s original release over 10 years ago. We would anticipate it will release around the time of the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) conference in Las Vegas in early April.

moving all keyframes on a shot in FCP

This reader Quicktip comes over from Steve Sabban and it’s a follow-up to Quicktip number 7: changing FCP filters lengths partially applied to a clip. I thought that was a particularly handy tip but it didn’t go into any real timeline manipulation of keyframes. This tip does.

Ki Pro Mini - An Unscientific Setup

About a week ago I finally acquired my Ki Pro Mini but only now have I had the time to write about it. I ordered it back in September when they were first announced, which is why mine showed up before the broadcast supply houses in my area. With AJA it's first come first served, which is how it should be. This article will be a recap of what it takes to get the Mini up and running with portable battery power as well as some of the 'gotchas'...

If you are an FCP guy, there is no way you couldn't hear Larry Jordan's name. Because there are a lot of rumors happening around the new Final Cut Pro version, Larry decided to speak on his blog: "I've Seen The New Version of Final Cut Pro... ... and it’s a jaw-dropper."

Last week, Apple invited a few folks, including me, to a short meeting in Cupertino where they previewed the up-coming version of Final Cut Pro. While I am under NDA and can’t talk about what I saw, I CAN tell you the meeting happened and that it showcased the new Final Cut Pro.

4 Steps to Edit Movie Trailers

Movie trailers can sometimes confuse the viewer because they may contain gaps in them that the filmmaker has left there, thinking that these will make sense to the viewer. However, if the viewer is not well informed about the movie, the gaps will only end up confusing him. As a filmmaker, you should know how to edit movie trailers so that those gaps make sense to all kinds of viewers. A good movie trailer must represent the overall tone of your movie. Here is a look at the steps that you will...

120hz Television "Smoothing" MUST DIE!!!

For almost 20 years, filmmakers have been trying to make electronic image recording (non- film) actually LOOK like film... and now 120hz Television Smoothing f**'s it all up...

Add Virtual Cuts to Avid Clip Based on Tracks

Here’s a really cool Avid Media Composer Reader Quicktip that comes from Evan Schiff. It’s quite clever and I didn’t have a clue you could do this. It can come in handy if you ever have a piece of media that is a self-contained edit and you need to add edit points to that self-contained media that matches the original cut that’s still in your timeline. I could see using this after a color correction has come back for final finishing.

Beware of (Some) YouTube FCP Tutorial Videos

February 22, 2011, 10:33 AM

http://www.studiodaily.com/blog/?p=5693

Just over a week ago I came across a YouTube Final Cut Pro tutorial about how to edit a music video. It popped up in my RSS feed, as the "tutorial" was embedded on a website. As one who often edits music videos and is always looking to pick up tips or a better way to do things, I clicked over to watch. What I saw was one of the biggest train wrecks of a FCP tutorial I’ve ever seen. Not just because it was badly produced but because a lot of what they were recommending...
