It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

In 1987 AVID technology began life as a company and in the years that followed the entire workflow for editing film was to be changed forever. A core team of people were involved in the development of the AVID, from the initial idea by Bill Warner, to the technical creation of a system which still rules Hollywood today. Tom Ohanian was part of the AVID founding team, those who brought the Media Composer, the Film Composer and Avid Multicamera Systems into being.

The NY Post/Production Conference is proving to be an annual event that East Coast-based editors find appealing and relatively painless-- four days of casual, though nonstop, classes devoted to the latest in Adobe, Apple and Avid professional content creation tools. Organized and staffed by Future Media Concepts (FMC) (www.fmctraining.com), the intensive sessions were held October 5-8 at The Doubletree Times Square. Produced in association with the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB)...

The HD World Conference, held October 14-15 at New York's Jacob Javits Center, has become a sort of do it all conference, an NAB for East Coasters who can't make the annual trek to Vegas. Sections of the hall were devoted to satellite and IP-based media, with a third of the space covering the more familiar territory of gear and software production and post, with additional emphasis on encoding, compression, audio issues, network infrastructure, digital asset management and more.

To give a little equal time to operating systems that are not Windows 7, and in acknowledgement of the recent release of Ubuntu 9.10, let’s revisit one of the most popular free distributions of Linux. (Note: that’s free as in beer and free as in speech, at least for the following distributions.)

In the past, if you wanted to share some portion of your work with another set of eyes, it was a somewhat time-consuming business of exporting a QuickTime file or transferring a sequence or a portion of a sequence to another drive or server for someone else to access. That's no longer the case.

Just three years ago, dire predictions of the death of Media Composer, Avid’s venerable flagship editing system, were rampant. The slayer? Apple’s Final Cut Pro and Avid’s own apathetic intransigence. For many, the obituary was already written.
