To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

By Jennifer Walden So, the toilet pool is a growing national trend — at least according to the uber-talented composer, artist and musician Mark Mothersbaugh. His recent composing work on the Fox TV series The Last Man on Earth, executive produced and partially directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller of The Lego Movie fame, inspired him to install his very own toilet pool. For those of you who haven’t seen the series yet and are confused as to what a toilet pool is, well it’s simple: i...

Digital Audio Networking: The New Alphabet Soup

Audio networking platforms have proliferated considerably in recent years, underscoring the shift in signal transport from copper to fiber. Their arrival offers orders of magnitude more channel counts and the virtual elimination of latency, but their diversity of types and features, plus the added complexity of their IT-based foundations converging with the AV-based traditional ecosphere of the broadcast plant, remote ops and sports venues is making for a complicated transition.

Is MZED’s Sound Advice Tour a Sound Investment?

MZED’s tag line is “Education for Creatives” – and they deliver. I’ve personally attended four of their events now, and each time I’ve been blown away by their instructors — working pros who also happen to be extraordinary educators. Yes, the sponsors (always high calibre) have an impact on which gear is used for the hands-on segment of each event, but that does not diminish the result one lux. Or — in the case of The Sound Advice Tour with Frank Serafine which I attended last we...

A few months ago I was told of a new app called Vordio to help with getting audio out of Final Cut and into REAPER. Rather than using OMF, Vordio takes a different approach and uses the XML export from Final Cut (or Premiere) and converts it to a...
