It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Israel has little more than eight million residents but it has a very vibrant motion picture community with professional organizations in all the major jobs of film and TV productions. One of these organizations is the Israeli Editors Guild, whose cofounder and chairman, is veteran editor Isaac Sehayek.

It is more common today for editors to be working a great distance from where the production is being shot. Vancouver, Atlanta, New Orleans, Budapest – all are popular shooting locations because of subsidies and tax breaks. In the past, editors went on location. How else could anyone watch film dailies without the cutting room being close by? With digital technology, that is less necessary. Remote editing solutions will make it even less so. My first attempt at a remote editing session involve...

Getting to discuss the history and stories behind Cinefex with Jody and Graham has been great! The magazine will cover feature films Alita: Battle Angel, Welcome to Marwen; Fantastic Beasts and a behind-the-scenes story about 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

This is Allan McKay. Welcome to Episode 170! I’m speaking with the writers at Cinefex, on the last 40 years of visual effects and filmmaking. I say it a lot — but I’m really excited about this one. I’m sure 99.9 percent of you know what Cinefex is. A lot of us grew up on this magazine / amazing looking book; and you’d have a stack of them on your desk as a professional. It’s been the backbone of our business, even before the internet.

Without a doubt, one of my favorite things about Final Cut Pro X is its different thinking when it comes to organizing and logging footage. Instead of Bins, you get Events and Keyword Collections. Instead of sub-clipping you do keywording. While Events really are just Bins by a different name Keyword Collections and keywording are the paradigm shift when it comes to logging footage for editorial in a new way.

There are many roadblocks you can run into once you start a video edit, and the sad fact is you’re going to hit one. It might be Premiere crashing, it might be lack of footage and resources, or it could just be a creative block. It happens to all of us. So, how do we prepare ourselves for success? It’s all about the approach and how you set up the project before you get started. So, let’s consider a few different things you can try to minimize the interruptions of editing roadblocks.

I’ve always been a fan of TV police procedurals and relish watching the evil doers reckoning with “crime doesn’t pay.”
