To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

metadata management delivery thoughts: Export, Imp

I recommend keeping the custom column names to a minimum if possible. The Avid allows all sorts of different custom columns naming conventions. Keep in mind that the naming conventions for custom columns can create results upon import like all lower case. If custom column name is too long,on a PC a custom column end can get truncated with a bullet symbol that seems to contain a few spaces as characters in the form of one character place. On a Mac there seems to be just a truncate of the end char...

ALE Merge using Source File versus Tape

Avid Log Exchange shot log from the Media Composer. For some rows and columns more metadata exported can make it on the ALE shot log then imported into the Avid bin. To export an ALE the user displays the columns of metadata desired for the master clips. The user then selects all of the master clips and exports the ALE. For starting out I like to test and make simple ALE files by keeping my columns displayed at a minimum and then exporting the ALE.

An interview with the creators of Pop Up Archive, a cutting-edge solution that makes sound searchable by Nakiesha Koss In 2012, Pop Up Archive co-founders Anne Wootton and Bailey Smith set out to push media forward. As journalists they’d seen firsthand the challenges facing audio producers. While pursuing their Masters degrees at the UC Berkeley School of Information with a focus on uniting technology and media, they identified the need to search, organize, and archive audio. Band Pro Open House – 2015 I had the pleasure of attending the Band Pro Open House this year, and these folks really know how to treat guests. When I arrived, my car was complimentary valet-parked, so there was no delay in getting right in to the action. One raffle ticket, pre-printed name badge, and complimentary jump drive later, I was inside, and ready to see all the things that Band Pro had laid out for its guests. The Differences in Editing Drama, Music and Dance

https://www.aotg.com/the-differences-in-editing-drama-music-and-dance/

http://www.larryjordan.com - The best drama, dance and music videos all start with a story. But, from there, they quickly diverge. Some music videos document a performance, while others create an interpretation of a performance. Some are very clean, while others showcase style over substance. And once you add dance to a music video, the rules change again. In fact, there are an infinite number of ways each of these could be edited. In our "Edit Music and Dance Videos" webinar, Larry Jordan...
