It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Due to COVID-19, the ASE decided to hold the 2020 Ellie Awards online, opting for mostly prerecorded segments with a few live segments. (Hey, we're Editors.) One of the huge advantages of Zoom is that Members from all over the country could attend and be involved in the live segments. Our long-term Ellies event manager, […]

Avid Media Composer offers a few add-on options, but two are considered gems by the editors that rely on them. ScriptSync and PhraseFind are essential for many drama and documentary editors who wield Media Composer keyboards every day. I’ve written about these tools in the past, including how you can get similar functionality in other […]

We detailed how filmmakers should approach work in the midst of COVID-19 and what it means to stay safe on productions during the pandemic using equipment like PPE kits, but such insights are merely about the practical necessities and day-to-day realities for working professionals in production and post. We pulled together a roundtable discussion with [...]Read More...

2020 for me included a half-million words of editing wisdom from some of the best editors and most exciting projects of the year. Not much happening in “theatrical,” but I’m sure we all watched a lot of projects this year on the “small screen.” This is a compilation of the quotes that I post from [...]Read More...

We will be conducting maintenance on kollaborate.tv on Saturday January 9th and Sunday January 10th. This was previously scheduled for the 2nd / 3rd of January; no maintenance will now occur on those dates. This will be primarily an infrastructure update, rather than a feature update, although there are a few small new features. While it might appear not much has changed on the surface, it's actually a big rewrite of the majority of the site's code. This will deliver improvements to perfo...
