To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Day 25 #28daysofquicktips - Consolidate Media Outs

Final Cut Pro X has some rather intricate media management capabilities built into its Library functionality. The Library concept itself is loved by some, hated by others. I think if you understand how you can move media in and out of a Library it might embrace one the concept (thought you still might choose to always leave media outside of a Library). I finally understand it a little bit better but it wasn’t without some study.

5 Things to Add to Your Post Production Toolbox

http://www.aotg.com/index.php?page=5_things_for_yo...

One thing I love to do is tinker with things. Because of this, I find myself adding things to my post production toolbox that many post professionals might not have heard of, or might not be thinking of, because they don’t appear, at first glance, to be post production specific. I wanted to think about things that I use that others in the post industry might find useful but haven’t thought of as a post tool. Here are five things that you might find useful when working in post...

My Year of Cutting Dangerously

No Fourth of July barbecue for this girl, I was too busy cutting a funeral scene that day. While you were setting your clocks back this fall, I was spending some quality time in German occupied France. As you were dodging buttered popcorn flavored jelly beans and spending time with loved ones, I was hanging […]

This is a style that you could use no matter what type of storyteller you are. I call this jump editing. Jump cuts are intentional. There are some rules to jump editing (or guidelines). Are you ever given a story that just screams jump cuts?

Use this free time-lapse calculator to quickly determine the shutter interval (time between shots) that you should set to achieve your desired clip length for a given recording duration. Now available as an iOS app with additional features for your iPhone or iPad. Besides serving as an intervalometer, my time-lapse app estimates the memory card storage that will be required for RAW or JPG image files, based on the megapixel count of your camera. I’ve also included some time-lapse photograp...
