It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

We all know the trivia. The Millennium Falcon is the ship that made the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs. The hunk of junk on first sight may not have impressed Luke Skywalker, but that bit of bluster achieved boyish respect for the smug pirate behind the wheel. Although, what the hell does that actually mean? Isn’t a parsec a measure of distance and not time? How can you travel A to B in a shorter amount of space? New York and California don’t get closer or farther apart from each other.

The Tick recently wrapped its first split season on Amazon Video. The series mixes tongue-in-cheek humor with the high--energy action of an almost invulnerable superhero clad in a blue tick costume. The always optimistic character, who debuted as a comic book hero in the 1980s, befriends the nebbishy Arthur, who becomes his sidekick in their quest to save the city from supervillain The Terror.

There's no doubt that visual effects can add a lot to a film; they can not only make them more fun to watch but also more fun to make. But perhaps one of the most common reasons new filmmakers shy away from including them in their work is that they believe the misconception that all VFX are expensive, time-consuming, and difficult to create. All VFX are not expensive, time-consuming, and difficult to create—just some—or most—but not these!

Buoyed by a string of high-profile film and television projects, PowerHouse VFX has quickly solidified its place as an industry leader on New York’s VFX scene. Founded last year by Emmy Award-winning visual effects supervisor Ed Mendez, executive producer Bob Lowery and chief engineer Eric Zeller, the studio is adding significant talent in all departments as it gears up for current and future assignments, notably the M. Night Shyamalan film Glass, where it’s serving as sole visual effects pr...
