It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

I can't remember a time when our industry wasn't hell bent on faster, better, cheaper, but this is the first I can recall such a willful disregard of tried and tested gear, pipelines and people. Since the advent of high-end digital cameras, we've all been so wooed and mesmerized by the...

Multicam: the promised feature. Just as Apple said when FCP X was released, multicam was released in a free update in early 2012. Grab 10.0.3 now if you don't have it already. There are many other improved features besides this one, but it's the headliner for most of us. If you've got a camera, an iPhone, and an iPad 2 handy, that's three cameras ready to go.

If you haven't done this before with FCPX you need to watch as this method brings a whole new area of creative potential to Final Cut Pro X. Our normal duo show you how to publish Motion parameters.

It only seemed a story away that we were talking about customising titles in Final Cut Pro X. SquidFX have done exactly that with this new effect for FCPX, it's on special offer too.

At today's Boston Media Makers meeting, Steve Garfield brought along a Blackmagic Design UltraStudio 3D [USD945] to demo. He explained that if you want to stream video live from a video camera, it is getting increasingly hard to find cameras with Firewire ports - the way most people have been doing it for the last ten years. Now most of the video cameras output only an HDMI signal.

As we all know by now Apple released their promised update to Final Cut Pro X that added multicam. It’s only been a week and there's already a lot of articles and tutorials about how this new feature works. I sat down with it some over the weekend to kick the tires and see how it performed. What follows are some thoughts, notes and observations as I was working with it.

The latest Final Cut Pro X update, 10.0.3, brings a couple major features to editors. Earlier Apple did promise us that both multicam and broadcast monitor output would be included in FCPX in early 2012. Well, they weren't lying. Before the update was announced, I asked you what are you most looking forward to in...

Metaphors are very powerful things. They are cognitive super conductors that allow us to process and comprehend complex, metaphysical and conceptual ideas with succinct efficiency. Moreover the power of metaphor goes beyond just the condensing of information and allows for emotional weight to be embedded into meaning.
