To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

LOS ANGELES — At the SIGGRAPH Conference in Los Angeles, Nvidia introduced DesignWorks VR, a GPU-accelerated toolset that enables headset and application developers to push the limits of photorealism and interactivity. Virtual Reality is garnering a lot of attention right now for PC gaming as an immersive experience that’s very different than sitting in front of a computer. Because that experience can provide a better sense of how humans and products might interact, businesses are also p...

The much anticipated DaVinci Resolve 12 beta has become available for download and with it a host of new editing features to add on top of its industry leading color grading tools. Resolve made quite the lateral move into editorial features last year but Blackmagic has really upper their game with v.12. Like any editing tool you have to know the keyboard so I took some time to make an editorial keyboard cheatsheet to help learn it. You’re welcome to a copy.

In the last year the case studies Avid chooses to report on on its blog have changed. As well as regularly reporting on aspects of making studio feature films… August 2014: We’d take a 2.40 frame and decide where it’s going to be when viewers see it displayed in regular, non-IMAX theaters. I did versions of the tilt scan for setting the 2.40 look from the IMAX frame using the Avid resize effect. Then the assistants replaced the Avid footage with a black-and-white trackable grid pat...

Without much fanfare outside Latin America, at the weekend Leo Hans and the Argentinian Association of Audiovisual Editors organised one of the biggest Final Cut Pro X-dedicated events yet. Leo has written up a detailed report on the day at fcp.co: We didn’t have learning centers here since Apple is not present in Argentina, but we do have resellers. So I started to teach FCP X to some friends of mine until one of the members of the board of EDA (Argentinian Association of Audiovisual...
