To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

LONDON -- Life of Pi, the new, epic adventure film from 20th Century Fox and director Ang Lee, relied on Codex recorders as a part of the production's 3D workflow. The Codex systems (www.codexdigital.com) were used on-set to capture dual streams of data from pairs of Arri Alexa cameras. Additionally, Codex digital laboratory systems were employed near-set to manage and back-up the large amount of data that was generated by the stereo production.

(Burbank, California--December 13, 2012) Real friends can be tough to come by. In a world where social media has become the norm in connecting with others it’s easy to be under the false pretense of having lots of friends. But how many of these friends do you really know personally and more importantly, how many of these people will become loyal friends that span an entire lifetime?

Color Management – Creating/Applying LUTs

Many of the latest camera systems offer either Log or Raw recording modes that give us the most possible information out of the camera. These features are great at keeping the original camera ‘negative’ as clean as possible, but at the same time they can leave your image on set looking very flat and boring. This is where the use of Look Up Tables (LUT) comes in, which are offsets that allow you to manipulate your image and create a look without effecting the camera originals.

Today’s blog entry is inspired by Kylee Wall and a comment she made on twitter that sparked an entire tweetfest debate. It goes something like this: @kyl33t: Dragon Tattoo is still the best cut teaser trailer ever.

What is the Big Deal About H.265 or HEVC Anyway

Poor old Fugly H.264, that brown paper bag wearing misfit is getting pushed out the door as the ugly lights are turned on. You’re going home with a new partner that H.265 in the corner you have had your eye on all night. High Efficiency Video Coding HEVC or MPEG-H Part 2 is the follow up to H.264/MPEG-4 Part 10 or AVC Advanced Video Coding standard for video compression.
