It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Not long after Sound Devices introduced its groundbreaking new 688 mixer/recorder, veteran sound engineer Daniel S. McCoy, CAS, became one of the first in the industry to deploy it in the field, employing it for the new one-hour NBC comedy variety series I Can Do That! Hosted by comedian/actor Marlon Wayans, I Can Do That! brings together acclaimed dancer and choreographer Cheryl Burke, superstar recording artists Ciara, Joe Jonas and Nicole Scherzinger, stand-up comedian Jeff Dye and actor Alan...

It's difficult for me to maintain objectivity as I process the death of James Horner, one of America's great film composers of the past 50 years, who died Monday piloting his turboprop aircraft through the Los Padres National Forest in southern California.

I’m not feeling a lot of love for OS X El Capitan out there. That might not be surprising, given that it’s firmly in the tradition of Mountain Lion and Snow Leopard–new-feature-light, speed-and-stability-focused OS X updates.

In this video James puts the new iD14 USB audio interface from British company Audient into action in a recording review. He records acoustic guitar, bass, percussion, drums and vocals to see how this small yet mighty interface reacts and responds. Take a look and listen to the track he creates showing just honeys it should be to make and record music.

I was doing a lot of thinking about James when I heard the news and I checked online. The beginning and end of his filmography are films that he did, or would have done, with me. It’s a curious bookend. We both started out on the same film in 1980, and his last listed films are the Avatar sequels, which he would have begun later this year.
