To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

You settings are exceptionally important inside of Media Composer.  They are what are going to give you access to all the bells and whistles that will make the difference between a slow edit and unhappy client, to a fast edit, and an exstatic client!

Photo Phun 2014

https://digitalfilms.wordpress.com/2014/12/19/phot...

I’m back again this year with another post about stylizing photography. Thanks to Adobe’s Creative Cloud subscription model, the interest in alternatives to Photoshop has increased. One application I ran across this year was Pixlr, which has been picked up by Autodesk. Free PC and Mac versions are available at their website and through the Mac App […]

Creating the Dark and Powerful Sound of Godzilla

Recreating and revamping Godzilla's infamous roar was no small task for sound designer Erik Aadahl and sound editor Ethan Van der Ryn, and surely wasn't an undertaking they took lightly. This is a sentiment they expressed to SoundWorks Design when they shared how they approached designing the creature's thunderous shriek, however the details they divulged were scant at best.

Editing Boyhood

While some film editors may feel as if they’ve spent 12 years cutting a movie, for the editor of “Boyhood,” that actually turned out to be the case. Richard Linklater’s epic yet intimate story of 12 years in the life of a boy named Mason (Ellar Coltrane) required a different way of looking at the editing process for Sandra Adair, who has collaborated with Mr. Linklater as editor on all of his films since 1993’s “Dazed and Confused.”

Viewers of Comedy Central’s satirical news show The Colbert Report have long been aware that the series’ deadpan Conservative commentator, comedian Stephen Colbert, is a die-hard fan of the works of J.R.R. Tolkien.

Now, another update has been released for the cloud apps, including Adobe’s video software Premiere Pro, After Effects, Media Encoder, and couple of others.

The ticking clock, Pacing, and The Imitation Game

Two years ago, William Goldenberg took the stage of the Dolby Theater on Oscar night as the Oscar winner for Best Film Editing on "Argo." This year, he is firmly back in the race, having cut Morten Tyldum's "The Imitation Game." I recently spoke to Goldenberg about the film, his approach to editing and his career to date.

"Is it good? I’m not sure, but I know I worked my ass off," Trent Reznor, the Nine Inch Nails frontman/Oscar-winning film composer told me of his latest score — the one that he and Atticus Ross put together for David Fincher's smash-hit Gone Girl — when we sat down for an hour-long conversation a few weeks ago in Beverly Hills.
