To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell
Aotg.com Founder

No editor won an Academy Award for cutting a King Vidor film, yet bravura editing distinguishes all of his best films, from The Crowd (1928) to Our Daily Bread (1934), from Hallelujah! (1929) to Duel in the Sun (1946).

After months of waiting, Apple has finally unveiled the new version of FCP. FCP renamed X, the new software is first and foremost, that, again. And yes, new things are fine, but what about the old wives are also necessary? (In Spanish)

It's a USD1,000 professional app. It was used to make "The Social Network," "True Grit," "Eat Pray Love" and thousands of student movies, independent films and TV shows. According to the research firm SCRI, it has 54 percent of the video-editing market, far more than its rivals from Adobe and Avid.

It started with the bizarre announcement that a team from Apple was taking over the LAFCPUG Supermeet at NAB. Nearly 2000 FCP users gathered to hear what they presumed would be the unveiling of the next version of Final Cut Studio or at least a new Final Cut Pro 8.

Did you drop 300 BUCKS on Final Cut Pro and hate it? Want to leave a negative comment to voice your displeasure? Apparently, you are not alone.

FCPX Not everyone is happy...

It was not hard to predict that a product created almost from scratch would not be met with applause from everybody. If you work with a professional tool you always have your own ways of creating your projects and you get used to and committed to your software. If you worked for years with a specific program it is not always easy to migrate to a completely new environment.

With Final Cut Pro X finally out it might be hard for some of you to work with the new interface and find all the options. Larry Jordan, who needs no introduction, made a step-by-step training on the last version of the suite. It contains 88 movies - more than 11 hours of in-depth tutorials which concentrate on the FCP X workflow and editing.

More Thoughts on Final Cut Pro X

Yesterday was a monumental day in the eyes of many in post-production. Apple released Final Cut Pro X (as well as Motion 5 and Compressor 4) in the Mac App Store for download. If you've followed any discussion, be it on Twitter, here or in the various blogs, you've probably seen that reaction has been quite mixed and reactors quite vocal (I'm guilty as charged). It does feel like, at least at this early stage, FCPX is a love it or hate tool.
