It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Every year at NAB the FCPUG (Final Cut Pro User Group) puts on their own event dubbed the "SuperMeet." Since Apple pulled out of NAB two years ago, no one knew how the expected announcement of a new Final Cut Pro at this year’s NAB would take place. With all other scheduled events at this year’s SuperMeet suddenly being cancelled at the request of Apple, who apparently wants exclusive stage time, it looks like the new FCP will be unveiled publicly on April 12 at Bally’s Event Center.

Frankly, I was stunned. While all things are possible, there are many strange elements here. First, nothing is confirmed by anyone. I have sent emails to learn more, but there's nothing official.

As John Lennon so elegantly put it, "Life is what happens while you're busy making other plans." The past year – the Great Unpaid, the move back to Boston, and other assorted successes and failures – has etched that immortal saying firmly in my grey matter, leading to much reflection and "life-ing" as I move my career and life forward, not into the Great Unpaid, but into the Great Unknown.

There's been a lot of buzz about Avid at the Las Vegas SuperMeet. We've been excited to participate in this great community gathering. And, we lined up the noted indie filmmaker, Kevin Smith, to talk to the FCP user community.

Larry Jordan - who back in February was the first to report seeing a demo of the new version of Final Cut [NotesOnVideo: Final Cut Pro Update - confirmation] - has posted his thoughts on the news from the SuperMeet. He's actually puzzled why - assuming the rumors are true - Apple would do this. He argues that they are pissing off other vendors [well, Avid yes, Canon is probably fine about it, who knows about...

I had always heard about this movie and the Lubitsch touch and finally caught it in on Netflix. Trouble in Paradise PosterIf you haven't seen it, do it! If you have, re-view it. This 1932 movie shows what an ingenious director can do in the face of technical challenges. It was shot at the beginning of the "talkie" era when sound recording equipment famously "chained the camera" because it was too bulky and noisy to move.

Rumors are flying that Apple will be using the Vegas Supermeet to announce the next version of Final Cut Pro. Supposedly, Apple will be taking over the entire event for their announcement, canceling all other sponsors, including AJA, Avid, Canon, BlackMagic, Autodesk and others, who were set to give presentations.
