To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Rotoscoping Images using After Effects CS5

Today is my birthday but that hasn’t stopped me from exploring my imagination. Now while Rotoscoping is no secret nor is it new, it isn’t easy and graphic and video editors are always looking to learn advance editing techniques. Earlier I created an awesome picture of my University with a mountain view. I am sure you have seen people add these types of effects in movie, television shows and graphic designs but did you know it is really easy? Well of course it is...

Media Copy

February 26, 2011, 06:02 PM

http://splicenow.com/2011/02/26/media-copy/

With cutting rooms more and more portable, many of us like to take a portion of a project’s media home and work on it from there. In Media Composer this can be a real pain because it’s so hard to identify the media files that go with a large group of clips. There’s a way to do it that I described in a previous post, but it’s complicated, and Avid should have simplified it long ago.

I'm dedicating this fourth and final part of my review to a few highlights, summations and notes compiled by myself and the person who told me about the event: @EditorLiam. Liam's "notes" will be in the form of tweets, with his permission, which he sent out during the event. In case you're wondering, yes, I have taken different approaches to writing each of these four parts of my review.

After Effects Advance Animation Techniques

Continuing last weeks tutorial, today’s video will highlight animating inside a 3D space. Now most of what you will learn are branches of basic animation techniques in the previous tutorial. Also I’d like to mention, I am testing the waters with a video I put inside the tutorial. It is a special 40 second video that hypes up the tutorial even more than it should be. This is all in good fun and I’d like to know what you all think about both the tutorial and special video.

Ki Pro Mini - The Results

We decided that today (Feb 24) would be a good day to shoot some test footage with our recently required Ki Pro Mini. The weather is clear, cold and windy. Okay, cold for us on the west coast but for anyone visiting it's just cool-ish. We went back to the same spot to shoot that we used when I bought my first EX1 back in January 2008.
