To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

PixelFLEX Becomes Part of Neon Tree's Pop Psycholo

On the heels of their Pop Psychology album release, Neon Trees knew the 2014 tour should be an explosion of psychadelic color to remain equal to the punch of frontman Tyler Glenn's lyrics. The show would be a theatrical event, and video would play a role in transporting the audience to a world that matched the shiny pop songs that lay emotion and angst out on the line.

With its latest update, Red Giant Software has updated BulletProof to support to not only interface with Adobe Creative Cloud 2014, but also provides enhanced support for AVCHD and Canon XF codecs. This will provide greater stability for shooting in the field and will give users greater peace of mind as their footage is backed up directly from the camera’s card. But it also offers greater support for a host of Red Giant apps.

In 2009, NPR writer Linda Holmes had a simple request for Pixar, one she put forth in an article titled, “Dear Pixar, From All the Girls With Band-Aids on Their Knees.” The entreaty? “Please make a movie about a girl who is not a princess.”

If you double click on the picture above you will get a 2560 x 1440 enlargement. Note the info tab tells you about the original material (4K) not the timeline info. I decided to take the dance footage a further stage forward using the scale mode as a zoom, this allows you to contain the shot at the precise moments…this level of control is not available to you on one off live vision mix, in other words “off the hoof without a rehersal”.

Alpha channels are grayscale channels in addition to the color channels of a file. They define transparency and often delineate objects or selections as a matte or stencil. Alpha channels can come pre-matted ("shaped") or as straight, that is, anti-aliased when composited.

Also, we go into some good strategies about how to make your data secure and back it all up.
