It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

by Andre ElijahSony Vegas Pro 13 is a Non Linear Editing system from the folks at Sony Creative Software akin to other professional mainstream NLEs from Avid, Adobe, and Apple. Like those other NLE's, Vegas Pro 13 has all of the day to day essentials required by a modern editor including, a timeline, media bins, a viewport for the selected clip, as well as a viewport for the timeline. Additionally - all of the tools in terms of making selections and trimming are where you'd expect. Since...

Here are some of our favorite results from our very first Render Challenge, “Grapes”. For the challenge, I asked Cinema 4D artists to make the render as close to the original render as possible. It was a challenge to recreate something perfectly. Not to copy them, but to learn what it takes to make a beautiful image and keep some of those lessons in mind for another project. Some of our favorite results are below including one from Jeremy Cox who was nice enough to include his C4D Scene File...

May 28, 2014 On today's POV Blog, 2014 Fellow Colin Nusbaum is interviewed about the role of the assistant editor: What are the responsibilities of an assistant editor? Do they vary from job to job, or are they very well defined? Each film is going to be very different. I’ve rarely ever replicated the exact process as an assistant, but always took it upon myself to carefully consider what might work best given the technicalities and goals for each film. Naturally, that also meant th...

When copying certain files to a network volume on OS X 10.9, Finder (or indeed Path Finder) will copy the first 12 KB and then beachball for minutes before eventually completing the transfer. Our testing has indicated that this seems to occur when overwriting files from a local disk to the network volume and seems to only occur with .app application bundles. We believe this may be something to do with resource forks because it is rare for files other than applications to have them and network...
