To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell
Aotg.com Founder

NAB: Adobe's Bill Roberts

Adobe’s Bill Roberts took time out during NAB 2014 to come by the postPerspective booth to discuss updates to the Creative Cloud video tools. One of the updates is the integration of Adobe’s After Effects within Premiere. “One of the things we focused on was how do you keep the editor within the editing context as much as possible and allow them to do more,” he says. One area where editors are being asked to do more is promos — an area where After Effects is called on often.

Tech aside (and there was some COOL tech), social media has made a tremendous impact on the way we visit NAB - a subject that Walter Biscardi Jr. found intriguing.

A TRIBUTE TO DEDE ALLEN

April 18, 2014, 08:56 AM

http://filmmakersdiary.blogspot.ca/2014/04/a-tribu...

A tribute to Dede Allen, editor of such groundbreaking films as THE HUSTLER, BONNIE AND CLYDE and THE ADDAMS FAMILY, was long overdue. So on Saturday, April 5, the Motion Picture Editors Guild inaugurated its Dede Allen Seminar Room. The space is a perfect memorial for the late dean of New York editing, because she loved teaching her craft to others and she loved the guild. Local 700 president Allen Heim (ALL THAT JAZZ, VALMONT, AMERICAN HISTORY X) used a good old-fashioned splicer to cut the ...

Breaking the Waves - Emotional Editing

Breaking the Waves is the kind of film that elicits strong emotional responses. And as its director Lars von Trier, editor Anders Refn, and location scout Anthony Dod Mantle discuss in this excerpt from our new edition’s scene-specific audio commentary, much of that power and the movie’s ragged, unnerving beauty have to do with its unconventional editing style, which stemmed from Refn and von Trier’s decision to “cut emotionally” rather than follow the usual rules of visual continuity.
