It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

I finally got around reviewing Logic Pro X for Post Magazine. It wouldn’t be proper to write a review on IT Enquirer when Post Magazine has gone through all the hassle of getting me a test license for the product. Instead, I’m listing three Youtube screencasts here. They’re no-frills introductions to the interface, movie import and processing and applying audio effects to a Final Cut Pro X project with the help of the XML import capabilities in Logic Pro X.

There's been some incredible 3D movies over the past couple of years, with the visuals often overtaking the storylines and characters when it comes to impressing. Here, we take a look behind-the-scenes of one of the latest designs in sci-fi movies for what could be one of the greatest CGI movie moments in 'Ender's Game'.

I've received many requests over the years for my UIs for various pieces of software, so here ya go (right now I have my custom UI for 3dsmax, Maya and Photoshop). I'd recommend taking what you want from these and customizing them, no two people work alike and I don't expect anyone is going to use my exact UI. But it is interesting seeing how other people choose to organize their tools, and so maybe this can help inspire a UI for you that's better for your workflow.

Animation faced the runaway problem decades ago. Now live-action faces it in spades. At this point in time, animation in Los Angeles has hit a plateau, but let's not kid ourselves. Even as animation jobs have expanded in Southern California, high-end live-action has gone, visual effects work has imploded (and dried up some of the CG talent pool). And even television animation, despite current robustness, is being impacted.
