It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Last year, before the launch of the new Mac Pro a lot of concerns regarded no possibility for internal expandability – no additional storage, optical drives, PCIe slots. An idea came up to use the old Mac Pro as an expansion chassis using PCIe card connected via Thunderbolt 2 to the new Mac Pro. This was reported at Alex4D blog (link here). Although the idea might seem awkward, it certainly had a point. Where there's a need, a product will come sooner or later. We didn’t have to wait long fo...

The LaCie Fuel is the company's first mobile, wireless hard drive and is also the first product collaboration between Seagate and LaCie since Seagate acquired LaCie last year. Wireless drives--those that generate their own Wi-Fi networks so users can stream content to Macs or iOS devices--have been around for a little while now. Seagate's own Wireless Plus has seen two generations in this space. LaCie, as they are oft to do, has taken this concept a bit further by taking the design forward and m...

I must admit, I’m feeling very guilty. This is the only new post in more than 1 year. 2013 has been wonderful from a professional point of view and I have had very few moments, if any, to dedicate to the blog. But for 2014 there are too many interesting trends that I can’t neglect anymore and so I want to return speaking about video encoding, streaming and OTT technologies.

Sure, your stereo may go up to 11 and beyond, but you probably couldn't murder your listeners with it. The European Space Agency has a bigger budget, however, and its Large European Acoustic Facility (LEAF) has a 36 foot wide by 54 foot high wall of sound designed to simulate the level of noise during a rocket launch.
