It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell
Aotg.com Founder

It's hard to believe but this comedic, stop-motion-style animation was created entirely in 3D. We find out how it was done.

Fox’s Sleepy Hollow is closing in on the end of its first season and has already been renewed for its second. The show features a diverse mix of visual effects work, from the hero Headless Horseman to matte paintings, particle sims and other animation. Visual effects supervisor Jason Zimmerman helps us go behind the scenes for a recent episode – ‘Necromancer’ – that has around 500 VFX shots.

Many once ignored the Flowchart Panel in After Effects, since it did not actually herald nodes or offer many operational benefits, but it can be useful if you need an overview of more complicated projects. Though not quite as fun as the keyframe art at Behind Keyframes from Sandervandijk.tv, the Flowchart Panel can even make for interesting art, as shown by Quba Michalski in MotionGraphs (pictured).

I am so glad that HP has addressed what I considered to be the two biggest weaknesses of the first generation of the Z1, its first all-in-one workstation, which forced the user to use a very glossy display and had absolutely no connection for an external disk array (RAID). HP just announced the second generation of the Z1, and both issues have been addressed, together with performance improvements and other user choices. Let’s take a first look in this very short article and video.

Apple unveiled its new Mac Pro computer a while back and it went on sale in the US last month. The new Mac Pro has a very interesting design that is round and looks a lot like a vase for flowers. While the Mac Pro has been available in the US continuously for a long time, the same can’t be said for Europe.
