It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

As editors and motion graphic designers, we are tasked with bringing our clients' vision to life through our cuts and creativity on a regular basis. Those of us who have had to create in a short amount of time know the pressure of achieving a certain look or creating a time-consuming mograph element. Lately, I've [...]

Although I have covered Blackmagic’s new US$145 UltraStudio Mini Monitor interface in prior articles (links ahead), I have now become even more familiar with it since the company sent me a sample unit, together with a Thunderbolt cable. Ahead I’ll cover why you might need one, everything I liked, and the few details I’d like improved.

In this lesson, Kevin P McAuliffe shows you the basics of color correction by simply adjusting the Setup, Gamma and Gain values to take a shot that was totally washed out, and give it the punch to really make it stand out above all others. The best part about it, is the technique is so simple, it can (and should) be used on every clip in your timeline.

So now you’ve got your film “in the can” as they say in Hollywood. What do you do next? Going into post production is often quite fun in the beginning but quickly becomes overwhelming. It seems like there is always something that cant be fixed that needs desperately to be fixed.

In this lesson, Kevin P McAuliffe continues his look at basic color correction by talking about what to do in situations where the color of an image has been altered (incorrect White Balance, for example) from what would be considered "normal". He gives you a basic overview of the color wheels and how simple they are to use, to achieve the "proper" look across all the clips in your timeline.
