To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

FBmn Software announces Border plug-in for Vegas

January 28, 2013, 08:38 AM

http://news.creativecow.net/story/870479

(France--January 28, 2013) The FBmn Software's Border plug-in is designed to help videographers frame, highlight or surround a specific area of interest in a video with a border shape, so that the watchers directly see what to pay attention to. This is especially useful for video tutorials or demonstrations, but also serves for any other kind of movies. The plug-in provides a few-clicks approach to drag a rectangular, square, round or oval shape around the most important things that has to...

Happy Birthday, After Effects!

January 27, 2013, 04:01 PM

http://blogs.adobe.com/jnack/2013/01/happy-birthda...

“I can’t believe I’m talking to these guys,” I thought. “They’re spending their time talking to me–and they’re so down-to-earth!” That was in 2000, when I first met the brains behind After Effects. (I’d just joined Adobe, aspiring to build “AE for the Web.”) 13 years later, I still feel just the same. In any industry full of half-hit wonders acting like they’ve just cured cancer, I find Dave, Dan, and all the AE guys as relentlessly humble and passionate as can be.

Where are all the Thunderbolt PCs and Devices?

January 27, 2013, 09:44 AM

One question that I've seen crop up repeatedly is, where are all the PCs and devices with Thunderbolt ports? Even with Apple's strong promotional support of the technology, there have been fewer devices than people anticipated, and they have taken longer to materialize than many of us would have liked.

Audio applications Lightworks Linux

I agree with this sentiment. Lightworks is primarily a video editing suite: designed by editors for editors, but not an audio editor. Of course, video does usually come with an audio track or two and any video editor will need to be able to do basic audio effects like EQ and crossfade and Lightworks has both.

Blackmagic Design HyperDeck Shuttle

January 26, 2013, 03:29 PM

http://digitalfilms.wordpress.com/2013/01/26/black...

The video industry has been moving towards complete file-based workflows, but that doesn't replace all of the functions that traditional videotape recorders served. To bridge the gap, companies such as AJA, Blackmagic Design, Convergent Design, Sound Devices and others had developed solid state recorders for field and studio operation. I recently tested Blackmagic Design's HyperDeck...

TOUCH EDIT - A FIRST LOOK

If you happen to follow me on Twitter, you were no doubt privy to the barrage of tweets I did while at the LACPUG meeting on Jan 23. Dan Liebental was showing off this cool editing app for the iPad, TOUCH EDIT, and I live tweeted interesting points he made, and pictures I took...
