To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

For Your Consideration - Judging the Invisible Art

Of all the collaborative filmmaking crafts, editing is perhaps the hardest creative art to judge, yet among the most critical in terms of shaping the story. Although during the course of the production the editor usually puts the initial edit together, sometimes with little input from the director, once production is complete the polishing of the film is normally done in close partnership with the director, blurring the line between the editor's contribution and the director's vision.

LaCie and beautiful design intuitively go together, thanks to years of LaCie regularly pumping out great looking storage devices. The LaCie 2big 2-bay NAS system is no different, sporting solid-aluminum body. It features LaCie's NAS OS 3.0, which makes NAS management easy. Out of the box, the 2big NAS comes configured in RAID 1, but has support for RAID 0 configurations.

Video Editors Choose Dell for Performance...

Over the last two years, I’ve worked on numerous heavy, professional-grade video editing projects like live streaming Lollapalooza, ACL Fest and JazzFest music festivals. A project like a music festival is a tremendously demanding beast as the timelines are extremely tight, as little as a few hours, but the quality of the final product must still be as high as a full blown production. This is why having a fast, high quality production cycle is critical to success and why video editors demand.....

How to Build Your Own Acoustic Panels

January 22, 2013, 01:05 PM

http://acousticsfreq.com/blog/?p=62

Sound absorption panels trap acoustical energy (sound) and prevent it from reflecting off of the surfaces they cover. The panels are used to eliminate echoes and reflections that muddle or color amplified music and speech. These wall panels will also reduce reverberation levels in a room, which can sometimes provide ambient noise reduction.

We missed getting product for the initial release of the Samsung 840 Pro SSD, although we did get in on the non-pro version back in November. When we mentioned it to Samsung during our meeting at CES, they handed over a 512GB version to throw on our test bench upon our return.

“Success isn’t fame, Success is just working and being good at what you do.” Jonah Ray, Comedian, The Nerdist Podcast. How do we define success for ourselves as editors?
