To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Most editors like to trim directly in the Timeline. Using tools and common techniques, it's the easiest and one of the fastest ways to trim edits. This article shows you how to trim (ripple and roll edit) in the Timeline using only keyboard shortcuts in Premiere Pro CS6. Trimming clips without grabbing for the mouse repeatedly will definitely speed up your workflow.

Conforming and Finishing A Film in After Effects

October 24, 2012, 07:11 PM

Behind the scenes look at how the short film "Reasons" was conformed and totally finished in after effects. The whole idea for the film was to build a workflow which was built around conforming my final cut and finishing it in after effects without the use of a smoke, avid ds or assimilate scratch which I use mostly for finishing. The hardest part of it all, you might think, is conforming your edits in AE, but it tends out that it's more easier than you think.

What happens if the clips I want to multigroup hav

When you multigroup clips that have a different number of audio tracks, Avid groups them and those groups will contain all of the audio tracks associated with the master clip.  It can be a bit disconcerting to see a multigroup that has audio tracks that fluctuate from group to group but don't worry, Avid will...

Capturing the Essence of the Edit

As I've written before, editing video is about cutting out all that you can cut out in order to get to the purest essence of the message. I recently read in an article about the power of video that the average attention span of a person nowadays is just 8 seconds (that’s one second less than the attention span of a goldfish). That means when a person comes to a website, you have (on average) just 8 seconds to capture their...
