To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Today Apple released an updated to Final Cut Pro X. This 10.0.6 version (a free download to current FCP X owners through the App Store) includes several features already mentioned by Apple, as well as some nice surprises. Overall, I think it’s an outstanding update that seems to be based directly on user feedback. I’ll have more to say later, but for now here are a few screenshots and descriptions of some of the key new features.

We sat down to watch the Apple presentation from San Jose today in glorious HD on our Apple TV. Mac Mini and iPad Mini were no big deal for us, we were completely sold on the new iMac. From December this could be the fastest Final Cut Pro X machine you can buy.

While the hype leading up to today's Apple event was clearly centered around the all-new iPad mini, it quickly became clear that the company had a lot more in store. Not only did we get the new, smaller iPad of our dreams -- as well as the anticipated reveal of a 13-inch MacBook Retina -- but also a fourth-generation iPad, a more capable Mac mini and a completely redesigned iMac. So what didn't Apple announce today?

Since its initial release Final Cut Pro X it has become the fastest evolving, most often updated non-linear editing application on the market today thanks to the App Store and a very admirable team of developers who aren’t afraid to break new ground. The update version reviewed here is 10.0.6, the most sweeping update so far.

Edit multichannel audio faster than ever. A simple keystroke reveals separate audio channels when you need them and collapses them when you don't — right in the timeline. Easily disable individual channels or select ranges for fine control of timing and volume. And access the Inspector to view details of any audio file, rename individual channels, or hide them in the timeline.

Apple Introduces New iMacs and FCPX

Apple announced a new and faster iPad today (less than eight months after the new Retina iPad), along with an entirely new product line, the iPad mini. For most filmmakers though, that’s an appetizer to the main course — which happens to be brand new computers, including a new Mac mini, a 13" Macbook Pro with a Retina display, and new (incredibly thin — pictured left) 21" and 27" iMacs. We didn't get a Retina iMac like many were hoping for (or a new Mac Pro for that matter), but the fact.....
