To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

If Adobe Application Manager hasn't already told you about this, go ahead and check for new updates by choosing Help > Updates. The best way to check for updates is by closing all Adobe applications other than Adobe Bridge, and choosing Help > Updates in Adobe Bridge; this ensures that all processes related to Adobe video applications have been quit and can be updated safely.

Ask Adam Epstein to name the toughest part of his editorial and motion graphics workflow for Saturday Night Live's Film Unit and he will tell you, unequivocally, that the intense 24-hour edit sessions preceding the live show are actually a lot of fun. It has to help that Epstein, a freelance editor, has been working this crazy routine for the past three years at SNL's storied studios in 30 Rockefeller Center, cutting the mock commercial spots that appear between live skits for film segment...

Smart rendering in Premiere Pro has been available for DV and DVCPro formats for years. In Premiere Pro CS6 (6.0.1, and later), smart rendering capability has been added for Long GOP MPEG2 OP1a exports, where the original material is a matching long GOP MPEG2 OP1a or XDCAM EX file. The intention is that smart rendering creates better quality output by avoiding recompression when possible.

As one of the funniest flicks to hit the big screen in a long time, Ted spurred a lot of buzz this summer about the fast-talking, crude bear walking alongside Mark Wahlberg. Though it may have been Ted's snarky remarks that had people talking, Dave Eisenberg at BostInno knew that the real story went on behind the scenes, with the tricks used to make Ted come to life.

In the movie industry where "time is money", technology is being developed and deployed rapidly in order to capitalize on creative opportunities, and to shorten time-to-market for these productions. In my last post, I gave an overview of how RED Digital Cinema is innovating with 4K and 5K motion picture technology, including how Windows PCs are playing a strategic role in the end-to-end workflow during post production.
