It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

The weather certainly cooperated in Amsterdam this week for the 2012 IBC convention, which grew in both the number of attendees and the significance for streaming media producers.

After 10 years of going to the IBC show in Amsterdam, I am used to seeing a fair number of products announced at NAB to be finally shipping. Yet there is usually a good number of new products that are released on the European market too. But IBC 2012, by that standard, was pretty much a lackluster show.

In a previous post, we looked at the original Color Correct Node, which is fine for doing primary color correction and grading work. However, the Color Warper is THE color node to perform complex color correction or artistic color grading on your clips inside Autodesk Smoke.

(Burbank, California--September 14, 2012) In today's world of post-production, it is not uncommon to feel overwhelmed by all of the different delivery specs, not to mention making sure you have the correct tools in place to deliver projects on time within the allotted budgets. Most independent content producers are not given the luxury of owning expensive decks and working with a limited production and post-production team in getting projects completed makes things even more challenging.

Three years ago, I wrote a story comparing hard disk drives to solid state drives (SSDs) based on capacity, performance and cost. A lot has changed in three years. For one, laptops are quickly being eclipsed by tablets, which have NAND flash memory embedded on their motherboards. In addition, operating systems have been optimized to take advantage of SSD I/O performance. SSDs today are far more reliable, have greater endurance and perform better (in some cases, two to three times better)...
