It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Following this year’s WWDC keynote, Apple released updates to Final Cut Pro X (10.0.5) and Motion 5 (5.0.4) in the Mac App Store. These updates are very small and mainly include support for the MacBook Pro retina-display. This update improves overall stability and is enhanced for the MacBook Pro with Retina display. Other than the...

Today, Apple pushed out an update for Final Cut Pro X (10.0.5) that breaks compatibility with Magic Bullet Looks – essentially, preview images will appear inverted in the Looks Builder app. Our friends at Apple made sure we were aware of the change and worked with us so we could have a fix waiting for...

Those looking for a better Mac Pro at WWDC were likely disappointed today. Apple released a modestly refreshed model with faster, 4-core and 6-core processors, but without USB3, Thunderbolt, or the new Ivy Bridge CPUs. Macbook Pros were updated with Ivy Bridge, Nvidia graphics (in the 15" models), Thunderbolt and USB3 and continue to include...

During the 2012 WWDC keynote, many expected Apple to offer a (major) refresh of the Mac Pro. However, despite many rumors, it turns out the Mac Pro barely received an update. In fact, it was not even mentioned during the keynote. The only way you would know that Apple updated it is if you went...

Last December the internal drive on my trusty late 2008 MacBook Pro failed, irreparably. Suddenly I was faced with a technical fork in the road—buy a new MacBook Pro (already kinda long-in-the-tooth specs wise) or go Steve Austin and make my old machine better, faster than before. I could not bring myself to spend money on a new machine that PC laptops would render circles around.

Some things are beyond measure, but your screen shouldn't be one of them. PixelWindow is a simple app for measuring it. All of the visual apps in the Adobe Production Bundle have rulers and guides so that you can measure...

Apple has chosen WWDC week to announce an update to its MacBook Air line. It may lack the Retina display of its newly upgraded, headline-grabbing cousin, the MacBook Pro, but the 2012 Air sees significant advances too. An upgrade from Sandy Bridge to Ivy Bridge processors with improved integrated graphics is chief among the upgrades, and onboard memory has also received a boost.

A bit late getting my notes up, but Manhattan Edit Workshop held its yearly EditFest NY this past weekend, hosting a number of discussions with feature film, documentary, and commercial editors. The Friday night kickoff at the Director's Guild of America Theatre, titled "The Lean Forward Moment", had moderator Norman Hollyn (The Cotton Club; Heathers;), leading a panel of...
