It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Before enumerating several hot topics in 3D that the nearly 100,000 NAB Show registrants from more than 150 countries should be on the lookout for this year, a bit of history about 3D as it relates to NAB Show...

In Avid, I'd often save timeline views with audio tracks massively expanded for rough audio mixing, or the audio small and the video larger for cutting and applying effects. If I wanted to adjust the track size even more I could just hit Ctrl-L to enlarge any activated tracks, and Ctrl-K to make...

Because the shortsighted Hollywood film industry did not want anything to do with the new invention called television in the mid-1940s, the radio industry took over the burgeoning medium. New York became the dominant center for the first decade of TV, as the radio studios were located in Manhattan.

In my opinion, Apple prematurely released Final Cut Pro X this past June. That's pretty much why I didn't opt to review it for Post until now. It just wasn't ready for prime time. Nor was the professional post market ready to downgrade from Final Cut Pro 7. All that has changed in just a few months, especially with the release of Version 10.0.3. Now with downloadable updates from the App Store, it seems clear that Apple will be making...

Two new products of interest to the professional post-production community have emerged of late. While each of them is individually important and innovative in its own right, they are also complementary. I probably don't need to inform you that Avid, to the usual fanfare that accompanies a major software release, has recently released Media Composer 6. This important upgrade includes many key new enhancements, of which we will get to later. But first, we'll begin by discussing the newly...
