To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell
Aotg.com Founder

Final Cut Pro 7 to X

Probably the biggest thing missing in the stock version of Final Cut Pro X is the ability to bring in old projects for revisions or repurposing. Philip Hodgetts at assistedediting.com and his team built an amazing little app that converts your old legacy projects into the current version (10.0.3). While I'm still confused how apple...

Continuing with some of the concepts we covered in my recent Expressions Basics Quick Tutorial, in this article we'll be looking at using Expressions as a simple and easily tweakable way to tie the amplitude of an audio layer to another layer. In this case, we'll be using a rhythm track to drive the needle of the same kind of VU meter we used in the Expressions Basic tutorial.

I am a firm believer that the footage will tell you what you can and cannot do with it and Down and Dangerous has proved no exception to the rule. The more time I spend with this footage the better my understanding of its needs has become.

Last week I discussed the evolution of cameras from pro to consumer, and how the technology has changed. This week in a follow up, I thought I would discuss the evolution of the edit suite. Editors have long worked in "caves" , working tireless through the hundreds of hours of footage to put together...

This tool takes an EDL as input (paste it in), and converts it to Avid DS Subtitle format, which is one of the two formats you can supply to Avid’s SubCap effect. Once you paste your EDL into the input field, you’ll be presented with options to exclude certain locator colors, or to add a...
