To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

NewTek's TriCaster all-in-one video mixers have a long history in portable live production (we reviewed our first TriCaster back in 2006). But in recent years, the ability to both stream and record a live production has pushed the TriCaster into the next level of live productions. As part of that push, NewTek has introduced a series of rack-mounted TriCasters, the TCXD series, with the first and most robust being the TriCaster TCXD850 Extreme (TCXD850X).

After years of passing on my own anecdotal recommendations, I recently reached out to some of the industry's leading editors and post-production educators to hear their response when presented with the question "What advice do you have for new or aspiring editors."

Where is Thunderbolt?

I needed to buy more storage for my editing system – as if needing more storage for video editing is a surprise or something… Anyway, I decided that since one of my editing systems supports Thunderbolt, I would buy a Thunderbolt RAID. Except the only ones on the market seemed to be from Promise Technology.

Finally DaVinci Resolve is available for Windows, but as you know Resolve isn't a software only product, it requires hardware. So what do you need in order to make a smooth running system. Resolve on Windows can be configured with 1, 2 or 4 GPU units. 1 GPU is good for work up to 2K, where the 4 GPU version will run very well up to 4K.

Clean those Adobe Media Cache Files

I learned something today about Adobe Premiere Pro that I was unaware of. The application creates a media cache when it imports media and that media cache seems to default to the system drive in the user Library folder.
