It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell
Aotg.com Founder

On the Creative Cow Premiere Pro Basics forum, editor Gates Bradley ran into a common problem affecting Premiere Pro users that use After Effects via Dynamic Link. Editor Jacob Kerns had the issue in the other Premiere Pro forum at Creative Cow. James Graham had the same issue on that forum, as well. This seems to be a common misunderstanding among Premiere Pro editors.

Today we released Cut Notes 1.1, a significant update to our note-taking app for the iPad. The biggest change in this version is Final Cut Pro synchronization. You can now sync your Final Cut Pro 6 or 7 timeline over wi-fi and have the timecode display in Cut Notes automatically update as you play or scrub in FCP. You can even use the play button in Cut Notes to remotely control playback.

Show Reference Clips is a function that allows you to view all of the clips associated with the sequence in that bin. It is a helpful function because it doesn't require you to have all of the bins open that contain the footage for the sequence. Show Reference Clips can be found by clicking on [...]

Grass Valley said today that it will be making a "significant corporate announcement" on October 12th. This language would seem to indicate some kind of M and A deal, rather than a product announcement.

It is very important to be organized while editing. If you’re like me, you organize all your media in bins in Final Cut Pro 7's Browser similar to how you structure your folders in Finder. So, when you add an image in the stills folder in Finder, you import it in legacy FCP and drag...

What a superb idea. Compile into a database all the common error codes you'll likely to come across on Mac based video editing software. Then wrap it all up into a searchable iPhone and iPad app for USD1.99.
