To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell
Aotg.com Founder

Apple granted a patent for 3D layout of clips

Sick of skimming in Final Cut Pro X? Could Apple be planning on including a three dimensional CoverFlow in iMovie first and therefore FCPX? Who knows, but they got awarded the patent. Our head is still spinning from trying to digest the patent document! Maybe patent documents get written in an abstract way but detailed enough to adequately cover the protected processes.

Noel Gallagher finds himself surrounded by an eclectic cast in his debut solo single The Death Of You And Me. Directed by Mike Bruce and lensed by cinematographer Salvador Lleo, this music video was shot out in the desert at Club Ed, Lancaster, CA. Famous for movies like Rob Zombie's recent "The Devil's Rejects, the Last Chance Cafe serves as the perfect setting for a stuck-in-a-rut waitress longing for something better than her pitiful existence serving the local bizarre folk.

Useful Tools for Editors: DropCopy

I was happily installing the Mac OS 10.7 Lion update on my Mac Pro at home (Avid recently blessed Media Composer to run on 10.7) only to become somewhat less happy when I realized AirDrop, one of the features I was most looking forward to, won't work with my Mac Pro.

Magic Bullet Mojo for FCP X

Mojo was conceived as a super simple effect for creating a sexy look quick, with a minimum of fuss. I designed it to be based entirely on sliders and other controls easily ported from one application to another, so that we could make it a screaming good deal and get it working on as many hosts as possible.

Most all of the tools we use in post-production are quite full featured. They've been updated over many years with features added along the way. Avid Media Composer is one of the most full featured of the non-linear editors out there.
