To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Apple USA unfortunately segregates Mac Mini's

Apple is the most flexible of all computer manufacturers in the USA with its wonderful policy of offering all of the Apple computers with whichever keyboard the customer wants with a new BTO (built-to-order) computer purchase. Well, I should say almost all of them.

Upgrading to After Effects CS5.5?

As Adobe has been offering the Production Premium suite at 50 percent off for owners of Apple Final Cut Pro or Avid Media Composer - as well as a long list of Adobe software - we’re guessing a lot of After Effects users who have been getting by with older versions may be thinking about upgrading.

DaVinci Resolve 8 - Lite vs full version

I think Resolve Lite will be a great introduction into using DaVinci. Now that Color is End Of Life there are no other competitors in the low-price range. But even if 995 is cheap it's still a lot of money just to evaluate the system. So this gives you a chance to test-drive it and see what you think before making the decision.

One of my responsibilities as a director is to watch lots of rough-cuts, and give change notes to my editor. My producer friends are often busy doing the same. It can be quite time consuming. Thankfully, an app has come along that simplifies the process.

Taking advantage of adverse industry reactions to Apple's recent release of Final Cut Pro X, which lacks many critical features considered essential within a professional workflow, Avid has been quick to directly address deep-seated concerns of the post community.

Storytelling: digital technology allows us...

Stories are memory aids, instruction manuals and moral compasses. When enlisted by charismatic leaders and turned into manifestos, dogmas and social policy, they've been the foundations for religions and political systems.
