It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

If you are a Final Cut Pro user Avid has a proposal for you. You can get Media Composer 5.5 with the Production Suite for the price of 995, so over 60% off the regular price! You will also get free Avid Media Composer for Final Cut Pro Users online training from Class on Demand (a 100 USD value) - however it will not be shipped with the software and may arrive at a later time. What's interesting is that Final Cut Pro X users are excluded from this offer.

Shooting with the latest and greatest gear is always fun. Selecting lens, bodies, filters, batteries, and tripods for a day shoot is fantastic. The wait for Thunderbolt-ready peripherals is over. Four months after the debut of Thunderbolt in Apple’s revamped MacBook Pro lineup, storage devices that support Intel's new interconnect technology have finally arrived. And while these initial products carry a notable price tag, Macworld Lab's first tests show Thunderbolt offering a great leap forward in terms of performance.

Ever since the release of Final Cut Pro X I've gotten quite a few emails and messages asking about resources for Final Cut Pro editors migrating to Avid Media Composer. While I don’t know of a specific switching book I thought it might be helpful to point out a couple of articles that I published here on the Editblog a couple of years ago.

AE Basics -- A Creative Cow series for new users of Adobe After Effects. 4 -- In this fourth tutorial, Andrew Devis goes over the options After Effects gives you for importing Photoshop documents. Avid's support of Matrox MXO2 Mini was the talk of NAB and IBC 2010, giving Media Composer users a very inexpensive HD monitoring solution. But that's not the only benefit Matrox products offer Avid users.
