It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Understanding the editor's job of combining pictures, words, and audio into a cohesive and engaging body of work is essential for all filmmakers. Apple's Final Cut Pro has become the preferred software choice for many professional editors. This hands-on course introduces students to the primary features and the basic interface of Final Cut Pro.

Whoa! hang on, don't spit your coffee out, this isn't a standalone Final Cut Pro X app running on an iPad, it's actually FCPX running remotely. We've seen this before but here Matts Macintosh shows us how well the GUI would work if FCPX was an iPad app. Interesting and frightening.

Just wanted to wish all the video editors in the United States a happy and safe fourth of July. Go celebrate America's birthday by spending time with the family, having cookouts, and lighting up some fireworks. That's actually a good time to whip out the video camera and take some test video for Final Cut ...

I bought and downloaded FCP X the day it was launched. And now I'm reading the manual and watching training videos to get the funda behind FCP X. It's taking time because FCP X is a whole new app. It does a whole new set of things in totally new ways. Its almost like how I made the transition from Steenbeck to linear tape editing to editing on a computer (first Avid, then FCP)...

This little USD500 box is worth it's weight in gold. In fact, I give the Hi5 3D the Negative Spaces Gold Star Award of Excellence (whatever the hell that is). This is the perfect solution for combining the signals from 2 cameras for output to a stereo display.

I've been a big fan of PluralEyes since I first met Bruce Sharpe (its inventor) at Podcast Expo (nearly five years ago). We use this product for both multi-camera projects and DSLR sync sound workflow.
