It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

The much wailing and gnashing of teeth that has followed the release of FCPX seems to me like a long overdue dose of sanity and rational logic. A return to a proper workflow appraisal of available tools rather than the sycophantic ignorance that i have seen dominate the better part of the past decade.

When you apply video transitions in Final Cut Pro X, it also applies an audio crossfade that lasts the same time. There is no option to turn this feature off. This can be a problem for tight interview edits.

The most recent edition of After Effects Studio Techniques included a new sidebar category: scripts. Over the past several years since it was introduced in After Effects 6.0 , scripting in After Effects has gone from a hidden feature set that a few nerds played around with to reduce tedious tasks, to scripts that provide substantial feature additions in After Effects.

I made a change to the User Forum we support for the group. I had originally thought that segmenting topics might be useful. In the end, however, I believe this probably only served to stifle communication and use of the Forum. To this end there is now on one main topic, Final Cut Pro and all of the earlier threads have been moved under this one topic. This makes it easier to see what people are talking about and hopefully will liven up the discussion forum.

On Thursday of last week I hosted another webinar with FilmmakingWebinars.com called Final Cut Pro Hands On Tour. It was a wild hour as we attempted a full tour of the software in that short amount of time. We went just a bit over and while it was fast and furious I think we gave a good overview of Final Cut Pro X.

We're one week into our search to transition our facility away from Apple and Final Cut Pro so I wanted to bring everyone up to date on where we stand so far. This was a very busy week as you can imagine with both production work in the shop and many MANY requests for myself to speak to national media outlets, podcasts and personal visits to our facility.
