It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Philip Hodgetts (Assisted Editing, Big Brains for Rent, Digital Production Buzz, The Terence and Philip Show), Patrick Inhofer (Fini.TV, Tao of Color), Chris Fenwick (Slice Editorial, One-On-One blog) and I talk about the polarizing launch of Final Cut Pro X. Is this launch one of Apple's biggest debacles or is it the shining path to the future of editing?

If you've got the Adobe CS5.5 suite installed on your system and you run an AJA Kona card, then yesterday's release of the AJA Mac Plug-ins for Adobe CS5.5 Version 9.0.1 might be of interest. I've been particularly interested in this update as I'm wanting to give Premiere Pro more of a role in my edit suite and Apple's FCPX update has accelerated that a bit.

We all know that Final Cut Pro X doesn’t yet support import / export of XML data. And there’s no OMF export out of the box either. Automatic Duck is offering OMF export via their Pro Export FCP. As a test I exported a short OMF sequence out of FCPX and into Adobe Audition.

Perhaps overshadowed by the controversy surrounding the release of Final Cut Pro X is the fact that Apple’s other video editing-friendly technology, Thunderbolt, is finally here. While the port has been shipping on the latest Mac computers, until now there were no currently-shipping RAID storage products compatible with the speedy new interface. On the official Apple store, four products from manufacturer Promise are now available.

We have been using the AJA Kona boards for years with FCP so it’s really important to me that the board work with whatever new software we go with. Happily I can now run my AJA Kona boards smoothly with CS 5.5 thanks to the new 9.0.1 Plug-In release.

As we mentioned earlier, we've been busy this year creating an extensive, multi-course video training series based on our popular beginner's book After Effects Apprentice. Each course has a selection of movies that are free for all to view; we're re-posting those videos here on PVC to make sure you don’t miss them.

8TB Thunderbolt RAID. I would love to configure this beast into RAID 5 and start doing some speed tests but it didn't come with a Thunderbolt cable! None of the Apple stores have them yet so just ordered one seperately from their online store. Super annoying. Anyways, at 500MB/s transfer rates, this thing should solve many of the data moving headaches that we're currently dealing with.
