To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Apple has Abandoned the Pro's

It's been a week since FCP X arrived and started a fire storm of criticism from so many of the users who’d supported Apple’s flagship video editing software for so long. It now seems to have become apparent that Apple has simply abandoned this small, demanding and high-profile market in favour of a much broader and more valuable consumer market.

It is unusual to make note that Apple has listened to users, especially when it comes to complaints. After the commotion armed by the appearance of Final Cut Pro X, which has led to fiery laments among professionals feeling abandoned, Apple has placed a couple of pages that answers the big questions and highlights the benefits "pro" final Cut Pro X. This page on the Apple website has responses to many of the burning questions that all of us have, and it is not a message passed thru "trusted" media but rather actually posted on Apple.com so that there is no confusion on whether or not Apple acutally said this.

In the wake of the scathing criticism surrounding the release of Apple Final Cut Pro X, Apple has released a FAQ that attempts to answer some of the questions. There are a few in particular that caught my eye.

Got a great tip from a friend... You can work natively in Final Cut Pro X. You just need to change some settings to overcome its desire to eat up disc space. Start by launching Final Cut Pro X. Be sure to keep an eye out for Abba Shapiro's forthcoming title.

Final Cut Pro X's color tools are really a step up from 6 and 7. One of the coolest things they’ve added is vignette coloring tools. Take a look at PixelWizard's tutorial covering how all of these tools work.

There has been a lot of collective wondering going on lately. People keep asking me and many others why we are so upset by the release of Final Cut Pro X. Why is it a bad thing? Both apps can still be installed ... right? The price is more affordable ... right? The needed updates will come eventually ... right?

Review: Final Cut Pro X

With the release of Final Cut Pro X (FCP X), Apple has adopted a radical new approach that will dramatically change the future of non-linear video editing. FCP X is not an upgrade of Final Cut Studio, but rather an entirely new application that shares the same name.

Is Apple Listening?

First it was the parody on Conan. Then came the forums, anti-FCPX Facebook pages and subsequent YouTube mashups of Der Untergang and Hitler’s reaction to the news.
