It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell
Aotg.com Founder

David Pogue of the NY Times reviewed Final Cut Pro X in Thursday's paper and he got many e-mails from professionals who believe that the suite is not as good as it is shown in the review. On his blog David wrote that in 10 years of writing Times columns, he has never encountered anything quite like this. He also quotes one of the e-mails: "This is Apple's worst release in history, (...) Apple has absolutely no clue what professionals need.

A few years ago Avid did something unprecedented in our industry that many editors may have forgotten about, They took their show on the road. Actually it wasn't a road show, it was their top management, visiting with post houses, pro editors, indy film makers and user groups. They asked what needed to be fixed and they asked for honest feedback. They sure got it! What did Avid do with this info? They used it to make their products better - dramatically better!!

We've covered a lot about Final Cut Pro X, but we haven’t touched bases with Motion 5. As most of you know, Motion 5 was released alongside FCPX in the Mac App Store for only USD50. The tutorial below, provided by Zach King – aka Final Cut King – gives a basic overview of Motion

First, an apology for that crime against music that was the Artful Dodger featuring Craig David. Ouch. Secondly, why? I've been watching the West Wing recently, right from Season 1 because I missed it first time it was on and because, after watching the Social Network I was in the mood for a bit more...

Earlier this month Avid and the Association of Independent Creative Editors (AICE) hosted the latest in our series of "Situation Room" events. The Situation Room typically takes place every six months and was created to foster two-way dialogue between Avid and the creative community of editors, facility owners and producers.

I didn't always use Final Cut Pro, and I didn't start using it from version 1. I was a late convert. I started out using Avid Media Composer. But I did start using it after version 3 came out.
