It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Many users have expressed their frustration with a litany of missing features in Final Cut Pro X. To begin with, there's no support for output to tape, and input from tape is very limited.

Did you drop 300 BUCKS on Final Cut Pro and hate it? Want to leave a negative comment to voice your displeasure? Apparently, you are not alone.

It was not hard to predict that a product created almost from scratch would not be met with applause from everybody. If you work with a professional tool you always have your own ways of creating your projects and you get used to and committed to your software. If you worked for years with a specific program it is not always easy to migrate to a completely new environment.

With Final Cut Pro X finally out it might be hard for some of you to work with the new interface and find all the options. Larry Jordan, who needs no introduction, made a step-by-step training on the last version of the suite. It contains 88 movies - more than 11 hours of in-depth tutorials which concentrate on the FCP X workflow and editing.

Yesterday was a monumental day in the eyes of many in post-production. Apple released Final Cut Pro X (as well as Motion 5 and Compressor 4) in the Mac App Store for download. If you've followed any discussion, be it on Twitter, here or in the various blogs, you've probably seen that reaction has been quite mixed and reactors quite vocal (I'm guilty as charged). It does feel like, at least at this early stage, FCPX is a love it or hate tool.

Apple announced Final Cut Pro X, a revolutionary new version of the world’s most popular Pro video editing software which completely reinvents video editing with a Magnetic Timeline that lets you edit on a flexible, trackless canvas; Content Auto-Analysis that categorizes your content upon import by shot type, media and people; and background rendering that allows you to work without interruption.

Stereo 3D science was the only thing on the agenda yesterday as SMPTE kicked off its second annual conference on the subject at the Millennium Broadway hotel in New York City. Of course, massive amounts of RandD money have already gone into the art and craft of creating 3D imagery — but the topics of discussion at this event aren't so much what we already know as what we're still working to find out.

Undoubtably one of the great writers and story-tellers of the 20th century, Kurt Vonnegut has a delightfully human, personal, hilarious and profound way of explaining things. And in this old video clip, armed only with a chalk board, he scratches at the great alluring appeal of narrative.

I work at a pretty big company, and we have pretty big servers, and sometimes a producer will send me a filepath that is well over 10 directories deep. That's just too far for me to look at the email and then hunt and peck my way deeper and deeper until I find it.
