It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Shrinking client budgets. Compressed schedules. New camera formats. Rendering movies to be viewed on anything from the silver screen to a mobile phone. Today’s post-production landscape is an obstacle course of sorts, and smart filmmakers everywhere are looking for new ways to navigate through it so they can deliver great work while staying profitable.

We all know that we will be able to download OS X Lion from the Mac App Store in July. But what if you have multiple seats that need upgrading and would a possible volume licence apply to other (ahem) downloadable apps in the future?

Next month Apple will ship Lion, giving customers the chance to upgrade to the company's newest edition of Mac OS X. Like any OS, Lion comes with a set of requirements, prerequisites and limitations that will lock out some users entirely and discourage others.

You're looking at a photograph of Edit Suite 1 at our new facility, and it's the one I use daily. The one question I get more than anything else is "What's in your edit suite?" followed by "Why do you have that?" So I figured, let's break it all down here step by step. Now the first thing everyone wants to talk about is the computer and hardware inside the computer.

No, there may not be any sweeping sunrises or Elton John songs to show us the way, but nevertheless: Lion is coming. To prepare us for the changes ahead, Apple has posted a big summary on its website listing all of the more than 250 new features present in this version of OS X—but let's be reasonable...

PFhoe is a relatively cheap and easy to use tracking application - great for those who want to begin their adventure with VFX. It provides a simple to use, intuitive interface - an environment even the most inexperienced user will get great results from. PFhoe allows to seamlessly combine a live action background shot with a computer-generated foreground element.

Something has been on mind lately and I wanted to talk to you about it. I'm talking to those of you out there who are trying to make something out of yourself. I'm speaking to those you out there who are just starting out, and those of who just got out of school and are about to face a massive looming student loan.
