To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Like most churches in today’s worship environment, Healing Place Church has a vision. Pastors Dino and DeLynn Rizzo have grown the organization from a congregation of 12 to more than 5,000 members in eight locations from Baton Rouge, LA, to Maputo, Mozambique. Part of that growth can be attributed to the church’s forward-thinking mentality and its early embrace of technology, which has earned it repeated recognition as one of...

Films that Inspire and Influence Pt. 2

In the last post I probed the subject of films that influence filmmakers. In this concluding post I’ll look at the film that most influenced me. And the film is... The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie. I saw it seven times in my twenties during the 1970s, long after it debuted in 1969. And I intend to re-view it this winter when the nights are long and cold and the TV set is warm and glowing. I’ll let you know how I react then.

This post is really in reply to another blog post which I first saw here, so please have a read of that first. I feel that it’s a more complex issue than Tej suggests over there but rather than start hammering my keys into that comments section, I thought I would have a look at it in a more constructive way in this blog.

Avid's web-based editing

A colleague of mine has been talking about editing online for years. Sitting behind my fully featured Media Composer watching examples of limited and slow online editing has never really got me excited. What I saw on Avid's stand this year at IBC did.
